Interests

I am computational evolutionary biologist interested in understanding the evolutionary process acting throughout the history of species and populations. My research has focused on the methodological aspects of the evolutionary analysis at the molecular level, but I also have worked on a variety of organisms, from RNA viruses and bacteria, to crustaceans, mollusks and mammals. My areas of research include phylogenetics, molecular evolution and bioinformatics. I have developed some programs that I hope are useful to other people. My current research interests include:
  • Models of genome evolution and phylogenomics
  • Evolution of HIV
  • Recombination and phylogenetic networks
  • Marine population genetics
